Interview About Kate's Shop

By Gerard Cosgrove

Kate was the oldest resident in the village in 1984. She was interviewed after the 1984 Gala-Day by George McInally. I took the video. She talks about the shop she used to run in Livingston Street, Addiewell. All the older Addiewell folk remember ‘Kate Caroll’s Shop’.

I used to try to keep a spare penny or two to spend in Kate Carrolls shop on my way to St Thomas' primary school in the 1960s. The 'glass toffee' she sold would actually cut your tongue to shreds but my oh my it tasted wonderful. Pity I am now paying the price for it now with my dental bills.
