ADDIEWELL DOG RACING
LOGANLEA HANDICAP. – A 130 yards dog handicap was run on Loganlea Football Field on Monday evening. Mr Sutherland’s Well Held won the final by half a yard from Mr McAuley’s First House. There was no betting on the race. Heat-winners: - Scat, Red Heckle, Forlorn Hope, Billy Buttons, Sapho, First House, Fatal Laddie, Vesta Tilley, What’s Wanted, Well Held, Blarney Stone, Salmon Trout, Go Right, and Erin Go Bragh. The semi-final resulted in Mr Sutherland’s Forlorn Hope, Mr M’Auley’s First House, Mr Sutherland’s Well Held, and Mr Meechan’s Go Right contesting the final. Results: - 1 (£4), Mr Sutherland’s Well Held. Other finalists divide £1.

LOCAL RUNNER’s GREAT SUCCESS.- A match for £25 a side was run at the Royal Gymnasium Grounds, Edinburgh, on Saturday afternoon, before a crowd of upwards of 500 spectators, between E. Eastman (Canada) and W. Biggars (Addiewell). The men were fit for the race, having undergone careful preparation therefor. The weather, though dull, was favourable, and the track was in good condition.
Biggars ran nearer the stand, with Eastman occupying centre position. The Canadian in the betting was a pronounced favourite, 2 to 1 against Biggars being on offer. The men got off simultaneously and the Canadian getting quickly into his stride, got close to Biggars with 20 yards only covered, but he wavered slightly over the half distance, and Biggars, who had never flinched retained a slight lead, and moving with the utmost confidence, gained a notable victory by half a yard. Time 6½ secs. (inside). A 100 yards handicap was also carried through, and Biggars continuing his good work, was again victor. It was a great day’s work for Biggars, who is to be congratulated upon his performance.

SUCCESS OF SAPPER JUSTICE
At Irvine on Saturday, Sapper A. Justice won the two-mile walking contest open to the British Army. The prize was a silver wristlet watch.
