Addiewell men worked in other coal and shale mines as well,
Cuthill drift mines opened in 1957.  Its coal was interrupted by many faults and was difficult to work.  It was linked underground with Baads coal mines near Rusha farm.  To try to make it more economic, it was merged with Baads in 1961.  Even this didn't save it, and Baads-Cuthill closed in 1962.
Baads was an older mines and was known to be in operation by Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Co in 1905.
