Flight Sergeant Robert Jack Henderson

Flight Sergeant (now Warrant Officer) Robert Jack Henderson, R.A.F. (No. 617 Squadron), whose home is at Addiewell, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for having completed many successful operations against the enemy in which he has displayed high skill, fortitude, and devotion to duty.
He was born at Tarbrax in 1920, and was a miner before enlisting in 1937.  He is now a flight engineer.

Robert (Bob) Henderson served with 617 Squadron (Dambusters) he was on the Dam's raid and survived it and many other sorties.  He was one of two West Lothian men in 617 Squadron.  Last year his son and daughter in law visited Tarbrax and West Calder and there is now a memorial bench at Tarbrax in his honour.  Bob survived the war, and remained in the RAF - he died in Cyrus aged just 40.  His parents John and Kate Henderson remained in West Calder and they are in the Cemetery at Burngrange.  I was given photographs of his wedding, and of him receiving his DFM and many more.  There's more information on him!
